Border Patrol Union unsatisfied with National Guard’s limited role at southern border

• While a welcoming site at first, the head of a major Border Patrol union has now said deploying the National Guard at the southern border was a “colossal waste of time.” Brandon Judd, leader of the National Border Patrol Council told the Los Angeles Times the troops who have been deployed have limited roles which have not helped ease the workload of Border Patrol. • Secretary of State Mike Pompeo attempted to reassure members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about budget concerns. The Trump administration sought to cut the agency’s budget by about 30 percent for fiscal 2019. Pompeo, though, said he is going to try to ensure State continues to have the resources it needs to carry out its mission. (Federal News Radio)

• A program manager with the State Department plead guilty to stealing funds from one of the foreign exchange programs she managed. Justice Department officials said Kelli Davis conspired with a transportation contractor in illegally taking over $30,000 from the agency’s Sports Visitor Program. (Department of Justice)
