  • As expected, White House cyber security coordinator Howard Schmidt on Friday released details of a plan to improve identity management on the Internet. The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace was the subject of a White House blog entry with links to a fact sheet about the plan itself. Schmidt describes the plan as a first draft, and it’s open to comments from the public. He said 70 advisory groups and individuals helped write the draft. The plan calls for developing an identity ecosystem infrastructure and improving security of internet components such as the domain name system and border gateway security protocol.
  • The FAA may have jeopardized personal information of pilots. An inspector general’s report says the agency has failed to fully implement cybersecurity standards outlined by the Office of Management and Budget. Among the problems, security lapses in medical support computers could let hackers install malware and access social security numbers, names and addresses. The FAA is working on a fix.
  • Worldwide efforts to protect the smart grid could generate $21 billion dollars in spending. That’s according to a recently released market study by Pike Research. But who will be spending that money, and if you’re a contractor, how do you get it? Tom Billington, CEO of CyberSecurity Seminars tells Federal News Radio his group just brought together federal and private sector experts to discuss the topic.
