The Air Force’s hottest new surveillance aircraft is a little nearsighted. An internal Air Force report says the Gorgon Stare drone is not ready to be deployed. Defense critic Winslow Wheeler, who obtained the report, tells NextGov the drone has 13 technical flaws that prevent it from being used in Afghanistan. The plane has video surveillance with a much wider field of view than models currently flying. The idea is to let commanders see more of what’s happening on the ground. But the quality of the video is lower signals from the older drones. The Air Force says the flaws are being fixed.
