First Lady to observe how soldiers stay fit

First Lady Michelle Obama will learn about new soldier training at Ft. Jackson.

First Lady Michelle Obama will go to the Army’s largest training post to see how the military turns couch potato recruits into fit and healthy soldiers.

The first lady will address new soldiers Thursday at their graduation ceremony on South Carolina’s Fort Jackson.

While there, she’ll hear from Army leaders about revamped training that focuses on core body strength and stamina. And she’ll get a briefing on revamped chow lines featuring dark greens, whole grains and fat-free milk.

Army leaders worry the nation’s security is at risk because fewer than one in four 17-to-24-year-olds is fully qualified to enter the military.
