Illinois water pump shutdown not a cyber attack, FBI says

After an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, officials determined that Russian hackers did not disable an Illinois water pump.

Federal officials have ruled out a cyber attack as the cause of a water pump failure in Illinois. Homeland Security Spokesman Chris Ortman said that initial reports showed that the problem might have been caused by a hacker from Russia. But, that information was based on raw, unconfirmed data.

The Associated Press reported that analysis by DHS and the FBI found no evidence of a cyber intrusion or any other malicious activity.
