chu_judyThe policy package the House Armed Services Committee’s Defense bill includes several measures meant to address hazing. Congress and the Government Accountability Office both say DoD hasn’t done enough to track and punish behavior that crosses the line between rites of passage and downright cruelty. Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) is the prime sponsor of the legislation. Her nephew, Harry Lew, took his own life after abuse by fellow Marines. She told Pentagon Solutions the military’s first step should be to come up with a common definition of hazing.

Navy brass have decided to recompete the gigantic Next Generation Enterprise Network contract, NGEN. But this time around they’re considering some tweaks in the way they award the contract. That includes expanding the roster of companies getting contracts to a flotilla. Federal News Radio’s Scott Maucione has more.
