Some of the high-tech collaboration tools that have worked for the military could soon be at the fingertips of all government workers.

Some of the high-tech collaboration tools that have worked for the military could soon be at the fingertips of all government workers.

GSA Associate Administrator David McClure tells Government Computer Week that his agency wants to use the Defense Information Systems Agency’s forge.mil project government-wide.

“It’s time to create a forge.gov,” McClure said, adding that basic services for agencies would be available for free.

“It would provide no-cost development and code repository support for open-source applications.”

McClure, who spoke at an Input event in Falls Church, Va. in June, said “forge.gov” would include software development, code repository, testing, certification and help moving completed applications to the cloud. And at first, the project could be hosted on forge.mil.

McClure says the plan is still be vetted and there is no timetable.
