Industry Chatter: Lisa Mascolo of Accenture

The concept of doing \"even more with even less\" is a step beyond \"doing more with less.\" Lisa Mascolo of Accenture has some ideas for doing it.

The concept of doing “even more with even less” is a step beyond “doing more with less.” But that’s where many Federal agencies find themselves. And squeezing every last dollar out of budget lines is becoming more and more common across government. One way to do it, according to Lisa Mascolo, managing director, Accenture’s U.S. federal business, is finding ways to work across agencies to take advantage of the government’s scale. Mascolo says the agencies are doing fine at finding ways to trim within their organizations; but she sees some room for cross-agency collaboration. “If you had a real mandate to use a single travel system, or even only two travel systems, you could gain some efficiencies,” she told me on In Depth today.

We also talked about ways vendors can help agencies get requirements right before the RFPs come out; reforming acquisition to get the government better value for their dollars; using data to make decisions and measure outcomes through analytics; contract protests, including how to cut down the number of protests and who decides which ones are frivolous; cybersecurity at agencies; and the one thing she’d change in business-to-government if she had a magic wand.
