Even before President Barack Obama signed the stimulus bill today in Denver, the Web site to track the $787 billion in federal spending is up and running.
The White House, with the help of the General Services Administration, launched the site this morning. Sources say the site is using similar technology behind the USAspending.gov site to track federal contracts and grants.
A GSA spokeswoman declined to comment on the site.
The site includes a timeline of the bill’s and agency milestones, an interactive graphic of where the money is going and a way for citizens to share their recovery story.
Agencies are expected by May 3 to have performance plans in place and begin reporting on spending for entitlement programs. Data on contracts and grants will be available by May 20, and by July 15 recipients of funds must begin reporting how they are using the money.
The site also includes the Office of Management and Budget’s director Peter Orszag and White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel that describes the implementing guidance for the stimulus bill, and directed agencies to name a senior official by Feb. 13 to oversee the implementation of the bill at their agency.
