Navy CIO Carey leaving

He plans on taking a new position later this summer. Carey says after three years in the position, it\'s time to move on to new challenges.

By Carey told his CIO staff that he will be moving to a new position by the end of the summer.

He tells Federal News Radio at the Information Week’s Government IT Leadership Forum in Washington that it was just time to find some new challenges after more than three years in the position.

Carey says he doesn’t know what comes next for him with the Navy or another agency, but he is excited for the move.

His move also means Carey likely no longer will be the co-chairman of the CIO Council’s Information Security and Identity Management Committee.

As CIO, Carey determines policy and advocates for the Secretary of the Navy in the development and use of technology and creation of a unified IT vision for the Navy-Marine Corps. He leads the development of strategies, policies, plans, architectures, standards and guidance, and provides process transformation support for the entire Navy.

Carey has been with the Navy since 2003 and has been CIO since November 2006.
