Air Force mixes up mail for competing contractors
Defense News reports that the Air Force sent assessments for a refueling tanker deal to two contractors, but mixed up the info intended for each company.
The Air Force refueling tanker deal may have been compromised after a mail mix-up earlier this month, Defense News reports.
Technical assessments for the KC-X intended for Boeing were sent to rival company EADS. While the assessments intended for EADS were sent to Boeing.
The Integrated Fleet Aerial Refueling Assessments are used to forecast how many tankers will be needed in various scenarios.
Air Force officials say both companies were mistakenly given limited amounts of identical information concerning their competitor’s offer. Officials say they’ve now taken steps to make sure both companies have had equal access to the same information.
Representatives from both companies told Defense News it appeared to be an honest mistake.
The KC-X source selection will continue, and the incident will not impact the selection schedule. The Air Force expects the award will happen early next year.
