In the wake of the WikiLeaks leaks, the Air Force banned the use of thumb drives and other removable media.
The ban was issued to help protect SIPRNET, the Defense Department’s secret network, often subject to unauthorized data transfers using removable media, Information Security reports.
But Craig Robinson, the chief operating officer at security firm GlobalSCAPE, said the ban by the Air Force is only a temporary solution.
The WikiLeaks incident highlights the risk that is inherent in having so much information readily available at somebody’s fingertips, according to Info Security.
Robinson said, “The real long-term fix involves policy change and technology change as well.”
