The world of federal information technology is certainly full of complexity and change.  New systems, new methods, and an emphasis on getting things done with less money.

During the interview, Ananthanpillai and Sparks talk about how they have accomplished that noble task with several agencies.  For example, NASA was charged with migrating 65 websites.  Ananthanpillai details how his talented staff managed to complete this task in 22 days.

Sparks talks about “how” this was accomplished.  She attributes the success to being able to apply concepts of DevOps.  Essentially, this is a concept where several parts of a project team work in a collaborative manner to solve problems.

The challenge is that each segment has priorities. For example, the operations people seek stability; the quality assurance staff want to reduce risk; the developers are always trying out new methodologies to reduce cost with less effort.

If your agency is faced with a reduced budget, then this is a terrific interview to get a perspective on how to get teams with varying loyalties work together.
