A signature open government initiative of the Obama administration is data.gov, with its hundreds of thousands of federal data sets available for downloading and building applications. It was the brainchild of federal CIO Vivek Kundra, but there’s another guy behind the famous web site who’s not so well known. Marion Royal is the agency expert at the General Services Administration whose task it was — and is — to lead the insider team of federal employees and contractors actually building data.gov. Tom Temin caught up with Royal at the IRMCO conference and asked him about the story behind the story.
