NASA spacecraft servers have cyber-holes

NASA\'s internal computer network is full of holes and vulnerable to a cyberattack, an audit by the Office of the Inspector General has found.

NASA’s Office of the Inspector General says it found computer servers agency-wide with high-risk vulnerabilities that could be exploited from the Internet. In a report the IG points to six servers linked to computers that control spacecraft and contain critical data. They had vulnerabilities that could allow a remote attacker to take control or render them unusable. The security lapse could allow attackers to cripple NASA’s operations, the report found. Inspectors say NASA has been slow to adopt recommendations from the last audit, including establishing an IT security oversight program for their key network.
