The Pentagon says its new Silicon Valley-based technology outreach office is seeing some early successes in rapid acquisition. It handled its first dozen procurements in an average time of 60 days. But as Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu reports, most of the money DIUx spent went to established companies, not garage-style startups.

While you’re raking leaves and washing the car, your neighbors in the National Guard will be spending more of their weekends in training. The Guard says it needs to make at least some of its soldiers ready for battle on shorter notice. Exactly what do those planned extra days of training mean for men and women who also work regular day jobs?  Federal News Radio’s Scott Maucione has more details.

The military already uses the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, to screen potential recruits for their academic and cognitive skills. The Army is about to implement a similar test to weed out applicants who are likely to fail boot camp for physical fitness reasons. Major General Jeffrey Snow is the commander of Army Recruiting Command. He talked with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu about the forthcoming Occupational Physical Assessment Test.
