Defense Contractors fish overseas and new fracking regulations

On this week's Capital Impact show, Bloomberg Government analysts will discuss overseas business opportunities for contractors, and the impact of the fracking rule...

This week on BGOV’s Capital Impact show hosted by Allen Scott:

  • A third straight year of federal contracting declines along with a sequester has prompted several U.S. based defense firms to look overseas for opportunities. Bloomberg Government quantitative analyst Evan Croen identifies prospect countries based on growth rates of U.S. military imports and domestic defense spending. Will this overseas growth be the answer to a federal contracting slump? Evan describes the process in place and how the government keeps track.
  • *The U.S. Bureau of Land Management, or BLM, published a proposed rule on May 24 to regulate the use of hydraulic fracturing on land it manages. The so-called fracking rule would require that operators disclose the chemicals they use during fracturing, test wells’ structural integrity and establish plans to manage recovered wastewater. Implementation will take several years so are they too late? Senior Quantitative analyst Jason Arvello addresses the issue in his latest analysis “Fracking Rule Won’t end Oil Boom”.
