This week on BGOV’s Capital Impact show hosted by Allen Scott:

  • The Qualified Mortgage rule, required by the Dodd-Frank Act and written by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is supposed to standardize underwriting practices across the industry once it takes effect in 2014. However, Fannie and Freddie are already having a similar impact on the industry through their purchases and buy-back demands. Senior Economic Analyst Dr. Nela Richardson joins the program to help decode what it all means.
  • Base Realignment and Closure has moved thousands of jobs to the Fort Meade area. NSA, Cyber Command and DISA employees have experienced what it’s like to live in an area in desperate need of a facelift. With fifteen thousand more jobs coming, the forty five year halt on construction has been lifted, creating jobs and changing the Fort Meade / Odenton MD. landscape. Writer Peter Crispino from The Arundel Voice walks us through what took so long and what we can expect to see.
  • It’s March Madness and you’re probably thinking basketball…and lobbying of course! Ok maybe not but what if we examine the amount of money colleges and universities spend lobbying the government? Dr.. Peter Brusoe will do just that explaining where the money is coming from and where it’s being spent.
