During the interview Schmith talks about how the agency can document a savings of 50 – 80% on software development costs.  This is accomplished because organizations re-use existing apps and rely on previously licensed apps.

Essentially, GSA is trying to improve the way the government buy information technology services.  One way is to design systems that are mobile friendly from the start.  She mentioned the 2,800 federal buildings that were flooded by Hurricane Sandy.  Rather than rely on centralized reporting, the GSA leveraged agents on site through secure mobile apps to begin to assess the damage faster and more efficiently than the traditional method.

Schmith will be presenting at the Salesforce World Tour on Thursday, April 28, 2016 if you would like to hear more.
