This week on Bloomberg Government’s Capital Impact show:

  • A Bloomberg Government analysis shows federal contract spending is slumping, declining since FY 2011 at a faster rate than has been seen since FY 1991. BGOV Federal Business Intelligence Analysts Anne Laurent and Brian Friel break down the reasons for the slump and eye the coming fight for future government dollars. Laurent and Friel also preview Bloomberg Government’s upcoming rankings of the Top 200 contractors.
  • With the threat of sequestration looming, defense contractors may be able to protect some revenue from deficit-reduction cuts by persuading Pentagon buyers to sign contracts committing funds appropriated before FY 2013. Defense Analysts Kevin Brancato and Robert Levinson break down the sequestration landscape and outline key strategies for contractors this fall.

Kevin Brancato is a defense analyst at Bloomberg Government. Before joining Bloomberg, he was a management scientist at the RAND Corporation, where he analyzed weapon system costs and defense manpower policies. Anne Laurent leads Bloomberg Government’s Federal Business Intelligence and Defense analyst teams. She has spent 27 years analyzing and leading coverage of U.S. federal government management, especially acquisition patterns and policy and information technology use and purchasing. She has been the executive editor of Government Executive Magazine, senior editor of Federal Times newspaper and director of the Initiative for Collaborative Government at CGI Federal. She is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and holds an M.A. from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a B.A. from the University of Michigan.
Robert Levinson is a defense analyst at Bloomberg Government. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force with more than 20 years of service. Levinson worked for Booz Allen Hamilton as a strategic communications consultant. He has a bachelor’s degree from the United States Air Force Academy and a masters from the University of California, San Diego.
Allen Scott (moderator) specializes in customer on boarding and training at Bloomberg Government. Allen previously worked at Arbitron, Inc. where he served in a variety of roles from customer service to sales operations manager. Prior to Arbitron, Allen worked in radio for several years in the Washington and Baltimore areas. Most recently he spent six years at 99.1 HFS as co-host and news director.
