Cybersecurity framework and Google beats Northrop!

On this week's Capital Impact show, Bloomberg Government analysts will examine NIST's preliminary cybersecurity framework, and Google's lobbying efforts. November...

This week on BGOV’s Capital Impact show hosted by Allen Scott:

  • Pursuant to an Executive Order issued by President Barack Obama back in February, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has delivered its preliminary cybersecurity framework. BGOV Senior Technology Analyst Sanford Reback examined the document and determined it’s not quite the answer we were looking for. In his latest report:“Cybersecurity Framework Leaves Issues Unresolved: BGOV Insight”, he’ll address what’s lacking and discuss whether the government should be telling corporate America how to protect our critical infrastructure given their “tech” track record.
  • Google Inc. is moving its Washington office closer to Capitol Hill after spending $18.2 million on lobbying, more than Northrop Grumman Corp. and enough to rank the technology company as the eighth-biggest advocacy spender. The tech giant has grown its government affairs office in Washington DC over the past 10 years and as a result of its efforts it escaped an FCC probe in 2012 with a mere fine and the FTC dropped an antitrust probe in January. Bloomberg News Washington D.C. Bureau reporter Todd Shields explains how lobbying money talks in the nations capitol.
