Ever since the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, “Policy for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors,” was signed on August 27, 2004, the Federal government has been working on implementing ways to identify authenticated users on the network. Agencies have come a long way and are continuing to explore ways to keep their networks secure.
