As Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James closes out her tenure, she is setting up a new Air Force Digital Service.
The Army says it’s becoming the first of the military services to launch a digital service “outpost” and wants a dedicated team of technology experts from outside the government to tackle its own problems.
In the first “Hack the Pentagon” challenge, the department asked anyone with expertise in IT security to find security flaws on five of its largest public-facing websites, including the Defense.gov homepage.
After slow start, the Defense Digital Service is now working on projects ranging from GPS to travel reimbursements.
