Janet Marchibroda: There may be a better system for federal health IT

The only thing more complicated than the healthcare system in the United States may be the health information technology underpinning it all. And the federal government may have made matters worse with long, detailed specifications for electronic health records, causing systems to be expensive and difficult to implement. The Bipartisan Policy Center — working with hospitals, technology companies and others in the health IT sector — has come up with recommendations for a better approach. Janet Marchibroda, director of the center’s Health Innovation Initiative, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin to share this new information.
