DoT guidelines target distracted driving

The Transportation Department released new proposed guidelines to address driver distraction caused by mobile devices. This is the second phase of voluntary guidelines DOT has issued on the matter. These ones encourage mobile device manufacturers to create devices that connect with the driver’s car whenever they can and also to include driver modes on them as well. (NHTSA)

The Pentagon signed off on advancing Lockheed Martin $1.3 billion as a downpayment to continue production of the F-35 jet. Bloomberg News reports the payment was to ensure assembly of the jets continued while negotiations continue on the contract for 90 aircraft. The contract has an estimated value of nearly $7.2 billion. (Bloomberg)

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) will be hosting his annual Federal Open Season Workshop on Saturday Dec. 3. The event will include experts on the 2017 Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan. This is the eighth time Connolly has held the event. Open season for feds ends Dec. 12. (Rep. Gerry Connolly)
