If President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his promises on the campaign trail, those policies will have a significant effect on the greater Washington economic region. Terry Clower, director of George Mason University’s Center for Regional Analysis, explains how a Trump administration could have a positive effect on the local region even though a common refrain during the campaign was to “drain the swamp.” Increased military and infrastructure spending as well as lower corporate tax rates could mean “thousands of more jobs” for the region. Clower also discusses how his center has seen local businesses become less dependent on federal spending and what that means for the local economy.
