Derace Lauderdale is a digital editor and graphic designer for Federal News Network.
His career began in 2017 as a communication specialist at NASA Goddard where he consulted on agency media events, news conferences and briefings, and photo sessions for NASA’s missions. He was responsible for writing, designing, editing products and disseminating news regarding NASA’s activities released to the public. He was also involved in the press run of NASA’s newly released Landsat 9 satellite, developing communications outlets to inform and engage the NASA community of the launching through websites, social media postings and articles.
Before joining Federal News Network, Derace previously worked at USDA Forest Service as a visual information specialist where he supported the Office of Communications providing general information to the public through visual means. During his time at USDA, Derace developed the tools and methods of computer graphics to create high quality visuals. He was responsible for the creation of photographs, illustrations and charts used in reports. He also designed presentations, books and videos for USDA.
In January 2023, Derace brought his graphic design background to Federal News Network, collaborating with reporters and web editors in the newsroom. He creates and produce high quality content designing images, editing videos for the Federal Report, and writing stories about the federal workforce.
During his undergrad, Derace interned at Bowie State University, joining WBSU Bulldog Nation radio highlighting events on campus and covering sports news and live games throughout the regular season. He later received a degree in Communications/Broadcast Journalism. Derace currently lives in Maryland.
