  • Polish prosecutors may seek access to terror suspects detained by the U.S. at Guantanamo Bay for direct questioning as part of an investigation into whether a secret CIA prison operated here in 2002-2003, an official said Thursday. • The Commerce department wants a new customer relationship management platform. It's looking for a cloud-based system that the public can use to access services across the entire department. Typically those systems let customers make a single user profile they can use to access different areas of an organization. That means if someone comes to the Commerce department looking for small business services and also work with the Patent and Trademark Office, they only need to create one user profile and only have to submit information once. Next Gov reports the National Institute for Standards and Technology already issued a pre-solicitation document for the cloud system. That means they're not quite ready yet to commit to buying new technology, but the Commerce Department expects to issue a solicitation for proposals during the last week of February.

  • Data breaches of electronic health records in the United States more than doubled since 2012. The exact estimate is about 140 percent. There might be many more data breaches that are simply unreported. That's because there's no reporting requirement when fewer than 500 people are affected by an attack. Still, the healthcare cybersecurity group Redspin says about 30 million health records fell victim to a data breach since 2009. The majority of cases are NOT the result of a cyber attack, though. Healthcare I-T News reports only six percent of the compromised records were the result of hacking. More than one in three cases are the result of people stealing or losing encrypted devices or computers. Another 20 percent of cases are from unauthorized access to the health data.
