Principal Security Strategist, Global Security Strategy and Diplomacy, Microsoft

Ms. Angela McKay is a Principal Security Strategist in the Global Security Strategy and Diplomacy (GSSD) team at Microsoft. As part of GSSD, she focuses on driving strategic change, both within Microsoft and externally, to advance cyber security and resiliency. Ms. McKay leverages her 10+ years of experience to address complex global challenges related to critical infrastructure protection (CIP) and information assurance across a wide range of topics, including strategic and operational risk management, information sharing, incident response and emergency communications, and software security and integrity. Ms. McKay currently focuses primarily on helping to shape U.S. cyber security policy and facilitating international collaboration to improve cyber security globally. She also currently serves as Vice Chair of the Information Technology (IT) Sector Coordinating Council and Microsoft’s Point of Contact for the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

Before returning to Washington D.C. in 2011, Ms. McKay’s principal focus at Microsoft was helping to increase capacity and build cyber security capabilities in developing and emerging countries. Prior to joining Microsoft, she worked on public and private sector CIP policy, cyber security, risk management, and telecommunications. Ms. McKay served in several key roles at Booz Allen Hamilton supporting the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) National Cyber Security Division (NCSD) and National Communications System (NCS) for over five years. She worked to advance the DHS mission to improve the cyber security of the 18 critical infrastructure sectors through implementation of the National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, Homeland Security Presidential Directive Seven, and the National Infrastructure Protection Plan. From 1999 through 2003, Ms. McKay served as an outside plant engineer for BellSouth Telecommunications, developing process and performance improvements for engineering wholesale voice and data telecommunication services and testifying on behalf of the company before public utilities commissions. Ms. McKay holds a Bachelor’s of Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
