Iran says ‘terrorists’ kill 10 border guards near Pakistan

Iranian media says "terrorists" have killed 10 Iranian border guards on the frontier with Pakistan and wounded three others

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian media says “terrorists” have killed 10 Iranian border guards on the frontier with Pakistan and wounded three others.

The porous frontier has long been used by drug smugglers as well as Sunni militants, both of whom regularly clash with Iranian security forces.

The semi-official Fars news agency said the gunmen fired on an Iranian patrol near the border on Wednesday. It provided no further details on who was behind the attack.

Eight Iranian border guards were killed in clashes with Sunni rebels in 2015. Two years earlier, the Sunni militant group Jaish-ul-Adl killed 14 border guards in an attack.
