Disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his dealings with Bush administration officials and lawmakers alike gripped the Hill for some two years. Abramoff was first indicted for fraud in connection with a 2000 casino deal on Aug. 11, 2005. The ensuing scandal eventually led to top officials in the General Services Adminisration and the Interior Department.

A federal jury found former GSA chief of staff David Safavian guilty of lying to the FBI, the GSA ethics office and on his financial disclosure form. Safavian was accused of providing information to Abramoff about GSA properties the latter sought to acquire, according to the Associated Press

Former Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. He was accused of offering to use his authority to block a casino that would have competed with an Abramoff client.
