Contractors doing any government work overseas face a big new rule that goes into effect this coming Monday. It's aimed at preventing contractors from engaging in human trafficking. It's a rule with teeth and it covers a lot of ground. Peter Eyre, a partner at the law firm Crowell and Moring's Government Contracts Group, joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive with more on the rule and its implications.
Agencies are making greater use of their ability to declare contractors and individuals ineligible for work by the federal government. Some outside experts suggest the increase may be the result of hasty decisions.
A coalition of businesses, associations and citizen groups rate members of Congress on how they voted on bills that promote or hurt private sector companies and forces industry to compete with the government. But some experts say the business coalition is taking a too narrow view of what the government does.
