  • This Friday the U.S. Postal Service will suspend its employer payments for the defined benefit portion of the Federal Employees Retirement System. The USPS says the move is meant to conserve cash and preserve liquidity. USPS says they will continue submitting FERS contributions made by employees, in addition to employer automatic and matching contributions and employee contributions to the Thrift Savings Plan.
  • A bill to expand the powers of the Recovery Board moves one step closer to becoming law. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee approved the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act. Congressman Darrell Issa, the chairman of the committee and author of the bill, offered an amendment as a substitute, adding suggestions from agency inspector generals, the Government Accountability Office, transparency and open government groups and minority members of the committee.
  • The Education Department may be the latest agency to offer employee buyouts. Last time they offered buyouts was in December of last year. GovExec reports, the department will make their decision in July.
  • A bill to stop FEMA from righting its mistakes is on the floor in Congress. The FEMA Recoupment Fairness Act was designed by representatives Cedric Richmond and Bennie Thompson. The Bill is meant to keep FEMA from getting the money back from victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita it overpaid.
