  • Transportation Security Administration employees across the country have elected a union. TSA employees have elected the American Federation of Government Employees as their exclusive union representative. AFGE National President John Gage tells Federal News Radio the folks really need a good union and he thinks they are going to make the safety even better, as well as get some better working conditions for the TSOs.
  • A bill to restructure the U.S. Postal service is on the house floor. Representative Darrell Issa’s Postal Reform Act will implement sweeping, structural reforms of the USPS. The legislation creates the Postal Service Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Authority which will be able to restructure the Postal Service.
  • The IRS is putting confidential taxpayer information at risk. The GAO says the IRS failed to perform background checks on mail couriers whose job was to transport taxpayer information from service center campuses to the post office. These same couriers also ignored an essential IRS rule to lock the doors of their vehicles, which were carrying taxpayer returns and other sensitive information.
