  • Every agency across the board is phase one of a hurricane: preparation. But the federal government from FEMA to the Coast Guard to the Department of Health and Human Services are already turning an eye toward phases 2 and 3: response and recovery. Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller joins us with details on what agency plans.
  • The Washington National Records Center in Suitland, Maryland remains closed to all but a small team of staff after it sustained damage in Tuesday’s earthquake. Now that team is bracing for a double-whammy with Hurricane Irene. National Archives Executive for Agency Services Jay Bosanko told Federal News Radio’s Emily Kopp that their biggest concern is water damage.
  • Hurricane Irene is headed up the east coast. Federal News Radio Senior Correspondent Mike Causey has volunteered to check on the route from the station to his house, so he left a little early this afternoon. Mike explains why people are so spooked by this storm.
