These are the stories Federal News Radio reporters are working on today.

  • The Homeland Security Department answers to more than 100 committees and subcommittees across Congress. It’s been that way since President Bush signed the law creating the department in 2003. DHS finds that maintaining this balancing act of answering to so many bosses stresses resources and people. WFED’s Jason Miller has the story.
  • The Thrift Savings Plan is home to your retirement savings and the number of people with BIG nest eggs in the TSP is getting bigger. There are more people with over a million bucks in the TSP than ever. Mike Causey is following the numbers here.
  • If you think the government is clever enough to tell what’s real and what’s fake, you’d be wrong. Phony electric parts have even been found in U.S. military equipment in Iraq. Victoria Espinel is the first White House coordinator for intellectual property enforcement. She is heading an interagency working group looking at counterfeit products in the government supply chain…and she tells Federal News Radio reporter Emily Kopp that the problem is serious and growing.
  • The Department of Homeland Security has made big strides since it was first created eight years ago. But it still has some big management hurdles to overcome. That’s the word from the Comptroller General, who delivered a report to Congress on DHS’ development today. WFED’s Jared Serbu has the story.
