Sometimes a theme just appears. We don’t even plan for it. Instead, it seems to take on a life of its own. That’s what happened during Thursday’s Daily Debrief, when several of our guests wanted to discuss two tech issues impacting the federal government. The Networx contract and IPV6 are weighing heavily on the minds of tech folks throughout the agencies. Those two issues signal enormous changes throughout the federal government, and they seem to be coming all at once. We talked about it with Jim Anderson. He is the commissioner of the General Service’s Administration Federal Acquisition Service. He talked to us all about how the Networx contract came about, and even explained how the new FAS would impact your work.

We also talked with Tom Patterson, the CEO of Command Information about how IPV6 will impact Networx – and the rest of your online work, for that matter. Turns out it isn’t just your desktop, laptop and cell phone. It is everything that can potentially talk to everything else. Anything with a computer chip, anything with a sensor, anything that might possibly tell someone else who you are, where you are, or what you’re up to. It will all be incorporated through this new version of the Internet. The thing is, you’ll hardly even notice the change.

Yeah. I know. Wild, huh?

One of the neatest interviews was with Lynn Oliver, the President and CEO of American Security Programs. They are a small business that just found out about a huge contract with the Navy. They’d been working on landing that contract for the better part of the past year. They just found out they got it, and were able to publicly announce it on your Daily Debrief!

I hope you’ll be with us Friday when we hear from OPM on federal leave and pay programs. We might even be able to come up with some fun things for you and your family to do this weekend.

If you have any suggestions for your Daily Debrief, feel free to email me. (Scroll back up and click on my head. It kinda tickles, but it works.) Or, if you’d like to comment on the blog, just click on “comment.” Remember, though, that’ll be posted here, too. (Your email can be just between us. Maybe. Depends on my mood.)

See you tomorrow!
