FBI nabs foreign hackers responsible for “scareware”

The Justice Department the FBI and international law enforcement partners have indicted two people from Latvia and seized more than 40 computers, servers and bank accounts as part of Operation Trident Tribunal. The operation targeted international cyber crime rings that caused more than $74 million in total losses to more than one million computer users through the sale of fraudulent computer security software known as “scareware.” Operation Trident Tribunal is an ongoing, coordinated enforcement action targeting international cyber crime.
