Analysis: Inter-agency contracting ‘out of hand’

Ask Ray Bjorklund, chief knowledge officer at Deltek’s FedSources research firm his opinion of inter-agency contracting, and he’ll tell you. In short: It’s gotten a bit out of hand.

That was the sentiment expressed in a column he wrote for The Washington Business Journal.

There are 4,100 multi-agency, multiple-award IT contracts government agencies can choose from for IT services and products, he explained. Additionally, there are 4,000 single-agency, multiple-award contracts and 4,400 GSA schedule contracts.

With so many choices, its may not be surprising that agencies are reeling from contract overload. Add to that the fact that the management of interagency contracting has been deemed “high-risk” by the Government Accountability Office since 2005.

Bjorklund joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss why more choices may not always be a good thing when it comes to inter-agency contracting and government efficiency.
