DHS braces for potential Stuxnet worm attack in U.S.

DHS told a House Subcommitte on Oversight and Investigations that copies of the Stuxnet code have been publicly available for some time now.

It’s been one year since the sophisticated Stuxnet worm attacked Iran’s nuclear program. The Department of Homeland Security is now preparing for a similar attack here in the United States.

Wired Magazine reports some cyber experts accuse the U.S. and Israel of developing and spreading Stuxnet.

The worm was designed to attack a specific system, but experts say the malware could be easily tweaked to attack other industrial control systems around the world.
