  • Another year added to the federal employee pay freeze is part of the $9 trillion deficit-reduction plan Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is now pushing. GovExec reports the proposal would freeze locality pay for five years. Meanwhile, Coburn has rejoined the Gang of Six, a group of senators developing a compromise debt ceiling solution.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration could shut down if the House and the Senate don’t agree on union organization for airline workers. The agency has had 20 short-term extensions since September 2007. FAA’s current operating authority runs out Friday.
