  • The Chief Human Capital Officer at the Department of Housing and Urban Development is under investigation for hiring abuses. HUD’s Inspector General is looking into allegations Janie Payne used her position to get her daughter a job at the agency. Payne is the co-chairwoman of the CHCO Council’s performance management task force.
  • Performance.gov is up and ready for you to use. The dashboard focuses on eight government wide management areas. The site also details how agencies are meeting goals in each of the categories.
  • The Transportation Security Administration is preparing to offer early retirement packages to its employees. Gov Exec reports the early out will be available to eligible employees starting in October if the Office of Personnel Management approves them..
  • The Navy is ordering ships in the Hampton Roads and southeastern Virginia region to head out to safer waters, to protect them from Hurricane Irene. The order is sending 27 ships out to sea. 28 ships are staying in areas considered safe havens.
  • The General Service Administration has awarded a million-square-foot HHS lease to a site in Rockville, Maryland for a second time. In March, GSA awarded the lease to real estate company JBG, to house part of Health and Human Services. The Washington Business Journal reports the losing bidders protested and the Government Accountability Office ruled that GSA’s evaluation was flawed.
