  • The United States Postal Service is improperly overseeing payments of stand-by time, according an Inspector General report. But, the report does say, USPS is paying tens of millions of dollars less for standby time then it did two years ago. Standby time exists because unionized employees are entitled to be paid while in the facility during low-volume mail times, equipment breakdowns or other unexpected events.
  • A new head of the White House Council of Economic Advisers is coming soon. President Obama will nominate labor economist Alan Krueger for the position. Krueger spent the first two years of the Obama administration as an assistant Treasury secretary for economic policy. In 2010, he returned to Princeton University, where he has served on the faculty for more than 20 years.
  • The General Services Administration is renewing a more-than 52,000 square-foot Treasury Department lease at 1750 Pennsylvania Avenue, northwest. The Washington Business Journal reports Treasury will continue to occupy three floors of the building under the 10-year deal. Treasury has other offices too – at 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue and 1801 L Street, northwest.
