These are the stories Federal News Radio reporters are working on today.

  • Combining three very different federal agencies isn’t easy. But it’s exactly what the government did, when it put together Customs and Border Protection less than two years after the 9/11 attacks. Federal News Radio’s Ruben Gomez continues ongoing coverage for the special series: “9/11: A Government Changed.”
  • A new report by the Office of Personnel Management shows agencies spent nearly $350 million in 2009 on recruitment, relocation and retention bonuses. That’s an increase of 22 percent over the previous year. Federal News Radio’s Emily Kopp has the story.
  • The Navy, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Energy want to build a domestic alternative energy industry that can stand on its own two feet. And once that industry is up and running, the Navy says it’ll promise to be a big customer. Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu has the story.
