The Energy Department wants industry, vendors, academia and government to coordinate how to keep the energy grid safe from cyber attacks.

The agency is releasing the “2011 Roadmap to Achieve Energy Delivery Systems Cybersecurity.” Energy calls it a “strategic framework” to protect new and existing infrastructure from attack.

The five strategies include: 1) building a culture of security, 2) assessing and monitoring risk, 3) developing and implementing new protective measures to reduce risk, 4) managing incidents and 5) sustaining security improvements.

The new document is an update to a 2006 version.
