Since 1988, the annual Leukemia Ball has raised more than $42 million for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Each year, teams of dedicated volunteers have exceeded all goals and expectations, making the Leukemia Ball the largest non-political black-tie event in Washington, DC.

The 25th Anniversary Event – A Toast To Making A Difference – will take place on Saturday, March 31st, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Nearly 2,000 guests will enjoy music by legendary rock band Foreigner, and a comedic performance by Sinbad. The Silver Anniversary Ball aims to raise $3.1 million for the fight against blood cancer.

Led by Sr. co-chair Robin Lineberger, CEO Deloitte Federal Services, and co-chair James H. Davis, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, Human Genome Sciences, planning for the Leukemia Ball is spearheaded by an Executive Committee with more than 50 high-ranking executives representing several major corporations in the Washington D.C. area.

For the 16th consecutive year, the Mercedes-Benz raffle will be among the night’s many highlights. The local Mercedes-Benz dealers have donated a 2012 ML350 4Matic (MSRP: $49,885) and a 2012 C250 Coupe (MSRP: $38,115) to be raffled off the night of the event. Raffle tickets are $100, and winners do not need to be present to win. Only 5,000 tickets are printed.

Guests will also enjoy a world-class silent auction, featuring unique experience packages, memorabilia, jewelry, and travel packages from American Airlines.

In recognition of their efforts to make an extraordinary difference in both the business and community environments, Human Genome Sciences will receive the Titan of Business & Philanthropy award. A long-time supporter of the LLS mission, Human Genome Sciences is an emerging pharmaceutical company with the mission to predict, prevent, detect, treat and cure disease.

LLS will also present the inaugural James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award established in memory of Jim Eichberg, an avid supporter of LLS and his community, who made service to others an integral part of his daily life. Kevin Fay, President of public affairs firm Alcalde & Fay, and founder of LLS’s Congressional Honors Program, will receive this prestigious award. Mr. Fay, a long time advocate for increased funding for leukemia research and a 15-year Leukemia Ball Executive Committee member, has helped raise more than $3 million dollars through private donations and attendance at the Balls. His positive impact on the community stretches far beyond his work on behalf of LLS. as he is an active volunteer in a variety of community organizations, including the Fairfax County Park Authority, McLean Little League, St.Luke’s Church, Bishop O’Connell High School and the World Children’s Choir.
