First U.S. Marines head down under

The first round of American troops stationed in Australia have landed, Defense News reports.

The movement, which involved about 200 troops, is part of the Defense Department’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

More than two thousand marines will eventually settle at Robertson barracks in six-month rotations. The U.S. doesn’t have a permanent base in Australia.
