Talk about raised spirits! On August 13, 2017, our show studio was filled to the brim with amazing food, lotsa potables and deep thoughts that incited great conversations. For example, this is Rum Week in DC. Every year, the founders, Clyde Davis and John Peterson, who have cornered the market distributing great rums around the city, come in with news about rum-centric events happenings across the DC area and the latest tastes and signature cocktails, all with rum as the centerpiece.

And speaking of drinking (but with a highbrow purpose, Mistress of Mixology (She was Eater’s “Bartender of the Year” a few years back) and certified somm, Chantal Tseng, has created something called, “Literary Cocktails.” She reads classics, gets inspired to create a drink themed for them, and then … everyone thought sips. Here how she does it.

All’s good that does good. SO, that[‘s why Maria Booker of the Capital Area Food Bank is in. This week is Restaurant Week in DC, when more than 250 of the best of the best offer “Try us, you’ll like us!” , fixed pricing for lunch and dinner. And the best of the best of the best also are kindly sharing proceeds from Restaurant Week with the Food Bank, which annually provides meals and groceries to more than 500,000 hungry kids and adults in the poorest neighborhoods. Here all about really good people doing really important, substantive work!

And, what do you call a Ukrainian chef whose specialty is Southeastern Asian cuisine? Confused? Maybe. Sasha Felikson? Definitely. Doi Moi’s talented exec chef, who worked and studied under nationally renowned chefs Eric Ziebold and Jose Andres and was a 2017 RAMMY nominee for “Rising Culinary Star of the Year”, is knocking them dead with everything from spicy, Thai-inspired sandwiches to complex dishes only he can pronounce. But … it’s all good, man. It’s ALL good. Chef Sasha’s in with tastes and talk of Doi Moi.
