DISA’s Sienkiewicz works through Pentagon reshuffle

August 19, 2010 — Henry Sienkiewicz has been the chief information officer for the Defense Information Systems Agency for about three months, but only in the last few weeks has his life gotten more complicated.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced earlier in August major changes to the way the Pentagon is organized, including eliminating the DoD CIO office. DISA will see major changes because of that move.

Sienkiewicz said he’s unsure how exactly the changes will affect DISA. Gates created a task force to decide on how to move forward with several of these initiatives.

In the meantime, Sienkiewicz is focusing on ensuring DISA’s new location at Ft. Meade in Maryland is ready to go from a technology standpoint. He said DISA is moving its e-mail system and other applications to the Defense Enterprise Computing Center (DECCs) to show other military services the benefits of these types of consolidations.

Finally, Sienkiewicz said DISA continues to focus on cybersecurity. He said his office will oversee entire recrafting of how DISA protects its computer networks, starting with continuous monitoring.
