  • The Army is moving toward launching its own app store exclusively for intelligence users. By 2014, the service plans to roll out a number of new features to its Distributed Common Ground System for intelligence collection and analysis. Among them will be an app mall that will let members of the Army intelligence community select widgets that tap into the centralized intelligence system the Army\'s building. As of now, Army officials say the system is aggregating data from 317 separate intelligence sources, making up 53 million records.

  • It\'s the end of an era at the U.S. Treasury Department. As of January 1, paper savings bonds are no more. The agency is taking another step away from paper and into electronic transactions as new savings bonds transition exclusively to an electronic system. Treasury estimates the move away from paper will save it around $120 million per year. From now on, the way to get electronic savings bonds is through the agency\'s e-commerce website at TreasuryDirect.gov, where users with paper savings bonds can also convert them to the electronic variety.

  • Dashboards are all the rage on federal websites these days. At the Federal Communications Commission, they\'re letting website visitors create and customize their own. The MyFCC tool is still in the beta testing stage, but the idea is to let users choose from a menu of widgets that tap into the FCC\'s most commonly requested data sources to build a custom dashboard. There are about two dozen widgets available as of now. And, the FCC is letting users log with credentials from third parties like Google or Facebook so they have one fewer password to remember.

  • The U.S. has sold a $3.5 billion antimissile interception system to the United Arab Emirates. It\'s part of an growing military build-up directed at Iran. The deal, signed on Dec. 25 and announced on Friday night by the U.S. Defense Department, \"is an important step in improving the region\'s security through a regional missile defense architecture,\" Pentagon press secretary George Little said in a statement.

  • The Defense Department on Tuesday released its annual report on sexual harassment for the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy for the 2010-2011 academic year. The number rose from 65 last year compared to 41 last year. MIlitary officials say they\'re not sure why the increase occured. But it has been encouraging victims to report. Pentagon officials belive that could be the reason.

  • U.S. Marine Gen. James N. Mattis, commander of U.S. Central Command, is ordering better coordination with the Pakistani military, and he says that all border stations must be known and mapped.This after the Pentagon has identified mistakes in a border incident that killed two dozen Pakistani soldiers. The report says the deaths were due to a persistent lack of trust between the U.S. and Pakistan. Pakistani officials say the U.S. has still not apologized.

  • The Navy\'s \"first kiss\" has made history. The first gay kiss took place in Virginian Beach this week, when Marissa Gaeta of Pacerville, Calif., descended from the USS Oak Hill as it arrived in port in Va. Beach and shared a quick kiss with her partner, Citlalic (SEET-lah-leek) Snell of Los Angeles. The crowd screamed and waved Navy flags around them. Both women are fire controlmen in the Navy. They met at training school and have been dating for two years.
